AMAZING April 2, 2010 Omar A. El Said This is an Amazing system, I looked everywhere for it and I only found it on amazon. When i ordered it it came in TWO DAYS. I am completetly satisfied by this product. It has amazing sound, and blows away systems that are much more expensive. The bass kicks hard and the sound quality is great. I'm 16 years old so you know I like my music loud, and this system delivers.
Recommendation for Sony 530 w MHC EC99i January 4, 2010 A. Newton (New England, Ma) This stereo is great. The sound is clear, and crisp at various loudness levels and option for more precise listening (rock, classical, etc).
It is nice that it also charges the IPOD, as well as plays it.
Of note, the remote control allows you the ability to fall asleep or wake up to music.
Prior to buying this one, I looked at the RCA compact stereo system which is about $40 cheaper. In my opinion, the savings are not worth it, as the RCA sound seems tin-ny and contained, whereas the Sony fills the room and sounds authentic.
There are two draw backs--the antenna on the radio stinks, so the sound on some radio channels could be crispier. And the display is a bit hard to read (I wear glasses, so perhaps its my eyes)) One other minor thing, is the blue/black color combo is not my favorite.
Good luck!
Sony MHCEC98Pi mini Hi - Fi Shelf System... The Truth October 7, 2009 Kelly Pitts (Ohio, USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I've owned one other Sony mini hi-fi shelf system in the past that was 360 watts RMS; 120 watts continuous RMS for both right AND left channel and 120 watts continuous RMS to the subwoofer, and quite frankly, it blows the Sony MHCEC98Pi mini Hi - Fi Shelf System out of the water. The specs on the Sony MHCEC98Pi stated that the watts were 190 continuous RMS for both right and left channel - this was not true. Actual wattage is 95 watts continuous RMS per channel. The reason for this is that it is in fact a FIVE-channel system; the right and left speakers are two high- and low-frequency channels producing only 95 watts per speaker. What a let down. The highs are muffled, the mids are weak, and the power is lacking. the 150 watt continuous RMS subwoofer does an okay job, but it leaves something to be desired and as a result, I've been exploring other options for speaker replacement.
In the end, when I really want to jam, I'm disappointed at this stereo's full-volume performance and the muffled highs make the system sound like crap. I didn't get my money's worth and I feel I was mislead into believing that this was a true 530 watt RMS system. The truth is, you get half of what you pay for.
My advice is that if you're serious about crystal-clear highs, thundering lows, and overall power and sound quality, look elsewhere for your satisfaction. This system simply doesn't measure up to its advertising. I wish someone would've written a review like this so I could've read it before I wasted my money :/
Mediocre at best May 16, 2009 Vlad the Inhaler (Dayton, OH) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Some folks seem happy with this system, but I am not. I purchased this system to replace an old Aiwa system that developed a bum CD-changer. Usually I have pretty good luck with Sony products but I was instantly disappointed.
1) The system is loud, but the sound quality is mediocre. The speakers are clearly very cheap and the (hard-wired) speaker wire is as thin as can be. I swapped in some old shelf speakers with actual speaker wire I had laying around and things improved dramatically - the speakers are basically junk.
2) The AM/FM tuner is poor and uses a non-standard antenna jack, so it's not easily upgradable. I have 6 other radios in the house that have no issues with reception so I'm pretty sure the tuner is the issue.
3) The unit is very large and the hard-wired wires are very short. This makes it difficult to situate for good sound quality.
If you are buying this because you liked older Sony or Aiwa shelf systems you may be disappointed.
Great System May 7, 2009 Angel Villa 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this System because I had seen it at a store and loved the volume and sound it gave. Of course Amazon had it $20.00 cheaper, I did not have to pay 8.75% tax on it and it was free shipping. We put the system in our garage and when we have parties at our house, you can hear the music from the street. Great system for the price.
