| Customer Reviews: JUST FINE FOR THE PRICE July 17, 2010 Qrysta White (New York, NY United States) I attached at first just one of the speakers and I'll say at this price it definitely performs well enough. Nice BIG knobs. Easy to use. Lightweight enough to be portable. The manual is in mice print and the one online discusses a double deck and this is NO double deck. I wish companies gave a darn about how manuals are written but I guess they never will.
I would have liked a tape counter. It is a pain to find anything on a tape with no marking system whatsoever.
Good Hybrid Machine July 9, 2010 Barb Needed a unit that could play CDs and cassettes. Not much to choose from in the marketplace, but this item is decent quality and is working well!
Don't expect much June 5, 2010 rtdprof The Coby CXCD400BLK is an inexpensive unit that will play CD, AM/FM radio, and audio cassette tapes. It also will record CD or radio to audio cassette. I bought it for recording CD to audio cassette because my car has a cassette player but not a CD player. Playback sound from CD and radio are good.
Unfortunately, playback from audio cassettes recorded from CD have far too much background noise, making them difficult to listen to. I asked the manufacturer if this was typical, hoping to ask for a replacement, but they have not responded.
Recording a CD to audio cassette is a bit tricky, as the cassette does not auto-reverse in record mode. This means you have to either listen while recording and stop the CD when you get to the end of the tape, or record all the way through, then come back and see where the tape stopped, flip the tape, find the same spot on the CD, and continue recording.
I had hoped it would have high-speed copying, but was not surprised that it doesn't at this price.
Bottom line: If you want an inexpensive boom box to play your old audio cassettes it's not a bad deal, though it is more a bookshelf system than a portable. But if you want to make good quality recordings on audio cassettes, look elsewhere.
