I was looking for a MP3 CD Player to replace the CD only player in my kitchen. After all, who wants to just listen to a single CD these days right? Surprisingly, that type of player is very hard to find, so I was happy to discover this one on Amazon. It arrived, and it does everything listed in the features (MP3 CD, regular CD, MP3 USB, MP3 SD, and even Cassettes). For the size (and price) the sound is pretty good.

So what makes it not great? Well, I unpack the unit, plug it in (after finding the power cord stored in the battery compartment), and pop in one of my car MP3 CD's with 160 songs on it. Yippee!, it plays MP3's, and then the disappointment sets in. After punching all the buttons, and then reading the manual, there is NO WAY to select random/shuffle play. Yup, you're stuck listening to all 160 songs in the EXACT SAME ORDER as they're burned to the CD (or USB or SD).

So every day when you sit down to breakfast, and woof down your Cheerios, you get to hear songs 1-7. Next day, songs 1-7, day after 1-5 (running late), etc, etc. WTF? Who would design such a player?

So it's a MP3 CD Player - it's just not a very smart one.

I was going to order a second one for my bathroom (who doesn't shower to music???), now I'm not so sure.

--Update Aug 14th 2010--

Just a few months after purchasing, and it doesn't play CD's or MP3CD's anymore. No matter what known good disk is inserted - it says NOd (meaning no disk).

I'd expect (and could live with) this if it was a $18.99 craptastic special from Walmart - but for $58 plus shipping it's a TOTAL RIPOFF.

Unfortunately there's no way to change my "Star rating" - cause now it's a lowly ONE STAR not the 4 I originally gave it.

Avoid at all cost. The search for a decent MP3 CD Boombox continues :(
